Farmer’s Harvest Festival
Living rural Austrian traditions during the „Bauernherbstzeit“ will make your stay unique
Small village and farm parties, high mountain masses, farmer’s markets, “Almabtriebe” (driving cattle from home after their summer stay on high alpine herb meadows) and harvest festivals as well as visiting different farms and livestock auctions – celebrating this festival gets people together.
You will experience in two festivals also performances of nearly extinct craftsmanships like chiseling and cutting special larch wooden roof shingles, felting, schnapps distilling and creating wreaths for home coming cattle.
Local farmers offer well tasting examples of their own produce, chefs from participating Bauernhebst restaurants and hotels will cook traditional delicacies like Bauernkrapfen ( Austrian doughnut served with a salty or sweet filling), Pinzgauer Kasnock’n (Austrian gnocchi and Pinzgauer cheese) or blueberry fritters and serve a small shot of rowanberry schnapps.
